I haven't heard of any across-the-board reliability problems with the 900 automatic. Nothing like the 9000 autobox, which tends to last only around 100K.
I would figure that an autobox that had been maintained and not abused should last the life of the car, and the life of a 900 is pretty long.
The biggest complaint with the OG900 autobox is that it's only three speeds. Combine a three speed tranny with the Normally Aspirated engine of a '93, and you have a seriously slow car. That probably adds to the life of the automatic. It doesn't last longer, it just seems to as you wait to hit 60 mph. And they tend to be buzzy at highways speeds.
It's personal choice, but if I were to get an automatic 900, I would either get a turbo engine if it were an OG900, or go over to a NG900 - 2.3liter engine (NA) and that critical extra gear (4 speed).
