Can we assume that all tune-up (cap, rotor, plugs, plug wires) items are fresh?
Usually, the things that are most heat-sensitive are the Hall Effect sensor in the distributor and the ignition amplifier. My first bet would be the ignition amp. It's a small grey electronic module that's on the outside of the inner fender behind the left headlight. If that's not it, the hall effect sensor is the next in the failure queue. You can get rebuild kits (at great cost) or rebuilt distributors.
You'll also want to take a look at the black connector on the side of the distributor. After years of heat from the turbo, the connector tends to get brittle. It's possible that it's deteriorating.
