Your point, in *your* words:

"[Your post]...turns into a political statement of your own, including a weblink along the same political lines."

As I understand this statement, you are suggesting that I have used my post as an opportunity to promulgate my own (purported) political affiliations, correct? I did not. This time, here are my words (again):

"You are incorrect; I am merely encouraging him to *do something*. How is suggesting activism, which is a *constructive* alternative to spewing useless sarcasm, a "political statement"?

So, in return, I ask you: Based on both your own words and mine, precisely *how* did I miss the point??

Let's continue...

I agree with your follow-up to mine:

"I will make no mention of whether I am for the war or against, democrat or republican as it is entirely inappropriate for this thread's context."

I agree because I just wrote a fundamentally identical statement:

"My political affiliation/philosophy has NOTHING to do with providing the link, nor is it relevant."

So, there, a little common ground. Doesn't that feel good?

Alas, it's shortlived; I step off it here:

To reiterate my first response, you missed *my* point (and I am sorry for it, because not only are you doubtfully the only one but, selfishly, I hate it when I fail to be clear), a point that is now and, unfortunately, taking more bandwidth than welcoming Rick home and feeling good about a soldier's safe return. That point is this, and I'll attempt to annotate it for clarity this time:

"Do NOT use a soldier's safe return home as an opportunity to throw out sarcastic comments on the political forces that sent him there -- he has *nothing* to do with it. [This seems pretty cut and dried to me.]"

Continuing...

"If you have a problem with our current Administration's foreign policy [that is, and specifically, if you are dissatisfied with how your country's leadership -- George Bush -- is managing Iraq], try voting for a Democrat next year [that is, express your dissatisfaction by voting for the *only viable alternative*, which just so happens to be a Democrat. For all intents and purposes, ours is a two-party system; therefore, a Democrat is the *only alternative*. How is offering someone pepper vs. salt an endorsement of pepper when it's the only choice?? And how helpful would I have been to suggest that he vote for a Socialist or Green? It doesn't make sense to offer someone paprika when we ain't got none...

And so, again, why did I link to moveon.org? Because Mr. "Rumplestiltskin" can kill two birds with one stone by going there:

Bird 1) he can learn about becoming politically active in an arena that he obviously feels strongly about, and Bird 2) he can learn about what the opposing party's (potential) presidential candidate has to offer.]"

Finally, there are two ironies to all of this: "Rumplestiltskin" has posted to this forum about a half dozen times, and Scott disapproves of politically-oriented discussion and will likely remove this portion of the thread (but hopefully leave the remainder).

Actually, there is a third irony...............I'm not a Democrat.
