Oxygen Sensor HELP !

I replaced my oxygen sensor on my 1990 900S with a Bosch Universal oxygen sensor. I'm confident the wire splices are solid. The first time I started the car after making the change, the car ran fine. It was cold, so I let it warm up and then turned it off. I started it again (now warm) and now the mixture smells rich and the idle is too low. It pulses alittle when the idle sinks down and then pops back up again, repeating this pattern over and over. I thought, maybe the computer takes awhile to adjust the settings. After driving it for about 20 minutes, there wasn't much change. Now for the embarassing part...when I cut the universal connector off the new sensor, the sensor dropped to a concrete floor. It landed nose first and the plastic protector it came with was still attached (protecting the nose). Could the fall have broken something inside the new sensor? Other than that, I don't know what's going on....is there something that needs to be reset? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Cullen
