As the turbo is somewhat of an obstruction to the exhaust stream, it permits as less constrictive exhaust system which improves performance and gives that unique sound. My guess is that if you mounted the less restrictive turbo exhaust (I'm not sure you can) you will have less backpressure and that will probably result in less torque from a motor that does not have a lot to spare at low revs. At least that was my experience with motorcycles, pull the mufflers and performance actually went down as the engine ran lean.
My advice would be to leave it alone, noise is not an indicator of performance. If performance is what you want, do the right thing and trade up to a turbo model. C900s with only 100K on them are fairly rare, any of us would make you a good offer for it, check the classified section on this board.
If noise is what you want, than trade in for a Honda and slap a performance exhaust and fart can on it. I may have a clean 92 Honda Accord two door to trade with you, where is your car? I can always use another C900 that is just past its break in period. Let me know.
