That's a bit much, even considering what local parts houses charge for parts.
If you have the time and can DIY, a new lower control arm is around $70 (mail order from one of the sponsors - eeuroparts.com or sobstory.com), a rebuilt drive axle is round $80 from NAPA (maybe less from a sponsor), and a ball joint is around 20 from the same mail order house. Figure that he's going to get the parts from a higher priced local place and put his markup on top of that. (He has to make enough to meet his fixed costs.)
When I replaced mine, not including the time it took me to get a used lower A-arm, it took me about 1-1/2 hours to do it all, including the time spent going to NAPA for the drive axle. I had to replace the drive axle because the inner boot was torn and I couldn't get the *&#$ tripod joint off.
