Last night as I left the local pub and fired up my rig, my seatbelt idiot light began blinking (the one in the gauge cluster, not the "fasten belts" light near the climate controls)for no apparent reason. Once i got home and shut off the car, I noticed that the passenger seatbelt was making noise. It would make a noise as if to indicate that it was trying to move (the door was shut tight) and a split second later, it made the noise of it giving up. Basically, two muted mechanical thumps in quick succesion. This pattern continued every five or so seconds. If I opened the door, the seatbelt would do it's normal motions, but would wait until that thumping pattern came around again. With the car off and the seatbelt in the forward position, the noise went away, so I left it like that for the night.
This morning I decided to pull the fuse for that seatbelt to stop the seatbelt from acting up because it was affecting my idle with the constant on/off power demand. When I pulled th fuse the pattern went away, but I got a new humming noise coming from the passenger footwell area which gradually subsided after a minute or so. Meanwhile, the idiot light has not stopped blinking during all of this. I noticed two relays for each seatbelt and wondered if pulling those would make everything go away. I should add that I have no problem with not having the auto seatbelts actually move,as the drivers side belt is already broken and I have grown accustomed to pulling the belt over my head and actually prefer it to being assaulted by the belt whenever I close my door.
I apologize for the length of this message but I want to spell it out as well as I can. Any help is appreciated.
