Good courage and luck with the grommet. re the AIC hoses, they get soft and the side that hooks up downstream from the throttle butterfly can collapse and might whistle. You can put a section of spring inside to keep it from collapsing.
I get a whistle from the small hose that goes to the check valve before the pcv grommet when the oil starts to soften it. Drove me nuts because it would only whistle under boost so I couldn't duplicate it with the car in the driveway.
Once you get the vacuum leaks stopped, reset your AMM with a digital voltmeter connected to the O2 sensor. Balance 50/50 around 0.5 volts at idle with o2 sensor connected.
If you can't get a basic propane torch, try a shot of carb spray at various points along the intake route. revs will increase when it gets sucked in...just not as sensitive as propane.
