I have the same car, Red 85 900 turbo 16v I just spent the last 3 days putting in a power sun roof and a new headliner. (dark gray! It looks great with the white/cream trim) Mine didn't have one at first, but it does now, Anyway I have noticed on mine that the wire is falling off anywhere there was heat or water. And ever worse where there is both. Like behind the fuse box. By the door jam. The wires for the windows, side Mirrors and locks pass by there. Not much heat but a lot of water run off from the windshield falls into the area. I have placed black tape to help with the wire shield harness.
To answer the original question, It would be almost impossible to replace the wire harness. You'd almost have the tear the whole car apart to get to them. You'd have to pull the whole dash, carpet doors....... It would be a very large undertaking.
