This is funnny, I just (last weekend) went from a manal to an elec. I would think it would be alot easier to go elec. to man. then to go the other way. The hardest part I found, if your by yourself is holding the sunroof pan up while you bolt it up. I found starting from the back is easier then from the front. Also put your seats all the way up. So there 90 degrees from the floor. This will help you in supporting the pan while you work more from the back to the front. (I'd get at least bolts up then seal it) There should be 8 bolts total. I'd start by pulling your head liner down. Remove all handles and sunvisors, and rear view mirror. Then remove the motor in the back and undo the cables. I assume this is a 3 dr. The sunroof pan will need to go forward so you can pull the cables all the way out. Then you can slide the pan out the back of the hacth back. It took me a whole weekend to do this. Mostly because I had to do the head liner at the same time. The covered part of the sun roof will not be able to swap out with the manual one. So if your not planning to do the headliner, I'd make sure there going to match in color or stains. I didn't plan for that. opps!
If it was me I'd stick with the elec. and look for ways to speed up the motor. Lube the track and cables or make sure your getting enough power to the motor. How old is the mototr?
Chaz is right thouhg. The manual roof is alot louder. there are 4 screws holding the metal roof down to the slideing action. The 2 spring claps in the back to hold it down. that's it. very loud with lots of raddles.
