Is this Lucas injection or Bosch injection? Posted by RS [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: 89 16v 900 problem: Distributor or EZK?..., Graeme Taylor, Tue, 13 Jan 2004 19:13:28 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My guess is that it isn't an ignition problem, it's a fuel system problem.
If it's Bosch LH 2.4 injection, try cleaning the AIC valve (or replacing it with a known good used one). On the US-spec '89s, the Bosch LH 2.4 injection system uses the AIC valve to keep the engine from stalling when the throttle is closed like you describe. If it's like the US-spec Bosch LH 2.2, check to see whether the dashpot is keeping the throttle from slamming shut for those last few degrees.
If it's Lucas injection, all bets are off.
There have also been several guys who have posted that similar symptoms have been the indication of a failing headgasket.
Your timing problems are a bit strange to us because we're used to the US-spec C900 non-turbos having fixed timing from the crank sensor (no hall-effect sensor in the distributor).
