That previous new engine - what clogged the oil pick-up screen? I can't think of anything in there that would do that to the point of stopping oil flow and killing your engine. I've never heard of, or even considered that point in the engine would be a problem effecting oil flow. Perhaps some hardened oil from the turbo oil return line? I do know how the turbo can do that to oil, which is the reason why SAAB recommends allowing the engine to idle for 30 seconds after coming to a stop after a hard drive. I've taken that return pipe off of a turbo unit before and I have seen what it can do to oil, most of it collecting around where the oil immediately comes out of the unit. How much of that makes it's way down to the oil pan I have no idea. Enough of that I can see clogging the intake screen. I certainly have never seen any such grains of carbonized oil emptying into the pan when I change the oil. Just black goo from top to bottom.
