Here's what I want to do to the dashboard of my 1990 900T convertible:
Replace the Clarion stereo with a Panasonic "ghost face" stereo, mounting it in the existing location of the Equalizer. This will free up the origional stereo location, where I can install a 3-gauge cluster with an oil pressure, volt meter, and vacuum gauge (vacuum ahead of turbo, of course!) I was also even thinking about an air/fuel gauge that reads right off the O2 sensor. I have one of these in my van, and find it useful. I have only 3 places for gauges there I imagine, so the volt meter would need to go. I could always place the volt meter in another location though. Being an electronics tech, I have access to volt meters in all sorts of shapes & sizes.
How hard is it to re-locate the stereo wiring to the lower location? How hard is it to get lines through the firewall in this vehicle for installation of the gauges. Any thought on what manufacturer of gauges is good to use? Having experience in American car tweaking, Auto-Meter is the manufacturer of choice for musclecars & circle-track car builders, but didn't know if there were any european ones out there that perform better. Does anyone know who makes a cover plate to go in the stereo opening made to hold gauges?
