Heres what I did Posted by andy [Email] (#759) [Profile/Gallery] (more from andy) on Wed, 11 Feb 2004 20:21:29 In Reply to: Yep..., Jeff Cunningham, Wed, 11 Feb 2004 15:38:52 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Put the bushings in the freezer overnight to shrink them.
Go to the hardware store and buy the longest 3/8ths deck carraige bolt (12 inches) and a bunch of big heavy washers and a nut for the bolt. have a deep socket about the diameter of the bushing handy.
Heat the carriers in hot water or in a toaster oven. (Or a turbo!) Put the washers on the head end of the bolt, run thru the bushing, then line up the carrier, socket, washers and the nut, apply a lot of liquid dishsoap and before the bushing warms and the metal parts cool, crank the nut down to draw the bushing into the carrier. Worked for me without a big effort, but the flaired bushing ends can be a pain, my local machine shop won't do flaired bushings. I had more trouble getting the frozen metal sleeve off the arm. Used teflon tape on the arm before reinstallation. Hope this helps.
