Since you got better running with the AMM out of the circuit, it looks like your AMM is shot. The wire burn off test does not verify that the AMM is good, only that the wire cleaner works. I have replaced a few AMM's and the wire test was always OK, despite idle swings and surging symptoms.
Stalling when cold that improves when the engine warms up suggests that your O2 sensor is working, since it only works when warm.
If you can find a known good AMM of same vintage to swap in, you can verify the problem. If you can't find one, I would go ahead and buy a rebuilt AMM from a site sponsor like sobstory 800-583-0370. Vastly cheaper than a new one from a dealer and you'll have it in a couple of days.
