The problem with trying to di this is that Posted by RS [Email] (#15) [Profile/Gallery] (more from RS) on Wed, 18 Feb 2004 17:26:42 In Reply to: Re: 4 speed auto in 92 900, Roy, Wed, 18 Feb 2004 16:29:10 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
the output from the transmission is directly connected to the pinion bearing in the differential. They're all one physical unit and there's no space to add anything else or change anything.
In the good old rear-wheel-drive days, you could shorten the driveshaft and add a unit onto the back of the transmission as an overdrive or swap out the transmission and replace it with something with an integral overdrive.
That said, you could put an engine and transaxle from a NG 900 or a 9000 into a C900, but that requires more engineering, cutting, welding, and other expertise to accomplish it that it's out of the range of most of us shadetree guys.
There is a site that shows a transverse engine/transaxle and macpherson strut towers integrated into a 99. Neat idea, for sure, but difficult.
