best way is to have a look:) just pop the clips off your distributor cap and have a look at the rotor and the contact points in your distributor. while you're in there, look at the bottom where the distributor connects to the engine and see if any oil is leaking into it. these seals go out and it's not a big deal at all to unbolt the distributor adjusting bolt all the way and just pull the distributor out and replace it with a new seal. sounds like you're going to need to change the cap and rotor if you don't know what's going on in there already and you've been driving this car for a while, unless someone has been maintaining and tuning it up for you on a regular basis. get the spark plug cover off and check them out. this is probably actually your main problem. get the ngk spark plugs that are recommended for your particular car; don't use any other brand and you'll be glad you didn't. you can get them at the saab dealer for basically the same price you'll find them anywhere else, except they'll probably actually have them in stock instead of having to order them. might as well replace the spark plug wires too while you're in there, unless you're running short on funds at this time. get the bougicord cables. you're really supposed to do all this stuff by every 10,000 miles or so? oh also change your air filter and you will be amazed at what replacing such a seemingly unimportant part that is so cheap will do for your gas milage and your car's ability to breathe well and run smooth. your car will love you when you're done and you'll begin to realize how much less money you could spend at the mechanic by just tuning up your car yourself; and you will develop a better relationship with your car and have a feel for what's going on when she's trying to tell you things, etc...
