that you inserted into an electrical connector that was installed between the driver's seat and the shifter console. It was paper thin, and the car could only start if this "chip" was inserted into its holder. The "chip" had some electrical strips on it as well, like it would complete a circuit when inserted into the thin holder. There were times when I couldn't start the car because I might have moved the seat, and it jostled the chip slightly out of its holder. I forget the name of the company that this security sytem came from. It was already in the car when I bought it. I had to contact the company once because I wanted a spare "chip" in case I ever lost the one I had. They were able to make me one when I gave them my VIN and serial # on the "chip" that I had.
I have no idea how this thing was hooked up, but it was done professionally. There were no wires exposed, etc. It was more than likely a kill-switch for the starter since, if the "chip" was not inserted, the starter wouldn't even turn.
