Darn, small broken part

Ok, while working on something under the hood, I brushed my hand against a small hose T-ing off of the crankcase cover and snapped a part of a very small valve in-line in the hose. I've included a picture of the break below for illustrative purposes. I have an '87 900 turbo by the way.
It must have been very cold and brittle because it snapped very easily. What is it? The check valve? A small piece of it broke off inside the tubing and stuck there.
So should I just fish out the little broken piece and replace the valve with one of the Pierburg ones that eeuroparts.com sells?
Also, can I drive right now without it? My turbocharger hasn't worked in a couple years so I don't need it. If I clamp one or both sides of the tube for now, will that cause issues?
Too many questions, sorry
