My car has the 2.1L 16v engine. Over the last two years, it has had an incredibly weird problem. I'll be driving along and it will just shut off. No warning, it will be running smooth as silk and then it just turns off, like somebody turned the key off. I have also noticed that it seems to die shortly after I fill my gas tank up (could be just a coincidence though as I drive a lot and fill the tank up a lot). When I try to restart it, the engine cranks readily, but it just won't fire. It starts to crank faster when I open the throttle, but it doesn't start. After letting it sit for 30min to an hour, it starts up and runs like nothing ever happened for who knows how long, but days, sometimes weeks later it dies again. The dealership started by cleaning and tightening electrical connections, next I replaced the fuel pump, and then the dealership replaced the fuel pressure regulator. All to no avail. Any ideas? I can't possibly be the only one to have ever experienced this problem. The dealership doesn't know what to do because by the time they get to it, it runs fine. This is getting incredibly frustrating!! HELP!!!
