The Happich cloth has a higher thread count and looks "richer" I believe it is also the material that makes the crossbars look more defined. I got mine from, I think, convertibletopsonline.com. It's a Happich top and I got it for $300.00 which is about half of what I found it for on other sites. The stayfast is a slightly lower quality product, but should last just as long. They also make a stayfast product that tries to copy the herringbone pattern on the underside of the happich cloth. I forget the name of that.
The top is not that difficult to change. It is time consuming, and it can be a little frustrating, but if you take your time it will look great. I am really amazed at how well mine turned out, and I don't consider myself to be that skilled at all in that sort of thing.
First, remove everything, there are good instructions at the townsend site, and clean it all up. There will probably be some corrosion of the first crossmember. You'll want to clean that up really well and paint it. When you put the new top on start with a few staples in the back to hold it in place, and then figure out how it's going to sit at the front. I got it looking nice in the front, and then I glued it in place I used a spray adhesive on the top of the first crossmember and gorilla glue on the bottom of it. You might want to try weatherstip adhesive as you've got to be really careful with the gorilla glue. After getting the front in place I spend a lot of time stapling and restapling the rear until it was all tight and there were no wrinkles in the fabric. There are good instructions by Pat Price on the townsend site. Feel free to email me if you have any more questions. just take your time and it will look great.
