Here's a trick... USUALLY when you pull fault codes, you just turn the key 'on' without cranking the starter. So the first code you get is 12231 for 'no ignition signal'. You usually ignore that one.
But wait until the next time it fails to start. (Be ready with your jumper wire.) Crank the starter for a good 5 seconds or more, presumably it won't start. Release the starter but LEAVE the key 'ON' so all the idiot lights are still glowing. Now short your jumper & read the codes. If your ignition (including Hall sensor) is OK, then you WON'T get 12231.
