does it happen under open-throttle? Posted by JimBlake [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Posessed center dash vent!!, rick c., Mon, 5 Apr 2004 18:13:45 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
If it gets wierd when you're climbing a big hill or when you've got your foot in it, maybe it's a vacuum leak. There's a plastic vacuum bottle in the right fender, kinda just forward of the door hinges. That 'stores' vacuum for the air-direction dampers, and it's got a check valve so it holds vacuum even when you don't have manifold vacuum.
Set the air-direction dial somewhere, try different settings, & park the car for a couple hours. Without starting the engine there should still be vacuum to operate the dampers. Move the air dial & listen for the dampers to operate. Ours would hold vacuum overnight...
The check valve is built into that bottle. But it's easy to get a little generic check valve & stick it into the line from the manifold.
