hi
ive got a 89 saab 900s 16 v with a mystery problem. it all started on a rainy day when it began sputtering and appearing as though it wasn't running on all four. at first i thought bad fuel..changed fuel filter, no differnce. then pressure regulator, still nope. drained the tank, replaced it with new fuel and injector cleaner. still nope, later it wouldn't even start. i examined the plugs and thought i might have blown the rings in the valves because the plugs were soaked with so much gas and carbon that it looked like oil...thank god it wasn't that. i cleaned the plugs, disconected the plug to each injector and checked the plugs and they turned up dry when diconected. i thought it could be a cloged injector locked open (it happens on all 4, not so bad on 1 & 2, mostly on 3 & 4). so i soaked the injectors in some good injector cleaner and blew them out with air, replaced the o rings and got nothing. the injectors are kicking my ass.
then i decided to switch gears and check the ignition (ive checked for spark several times in the early stages) i replaced the cap, rotor, but not the wires because they look fine. i checked the timing chain for good tension in case i jumped a tooth, rewired the solinoid ground...still no jazz. what else is there? the igniton pulse amplifier? not enough juice to spark? has anyone ever heard of this? would it explain flooding an carbon? or could it be the ecu?
