First, if a local Saab independent mechanic is available ask to take it there for a pre-purchase inspection. If the seller won't let you then run away (or offer alot less money). I didn't get this done because I got my convertible via Ebay from 600 miles away but I got lucky (thankfully). I did have a post purchase inspection done. If there's no local Saab independent then see if anyone from Saabnet or a local Saab club is available to go look at it with you. Where are you and the car located?

If it is as nice as it sounds, perhaps offer to meet him halfway between retail and private seller values. I guess ultimately it depends on how badly you want it, how much money you have available and whether you feel it is a good value for that money. Keep in mind that this is indeed prime selling season for convertibles...speaking as someone who just this morning drove a 200 mile round trip in mine it is great! What a wonderful car.

Just remember that book value can only tell you so much...my car's book value is about $4,000 but I just had it professionally appraised last month for $10,000 due to it's condition and somewhat rare OEM accessories!!

You might also consider taking some digital photos, posting them on a web site and linking us to it so that all of the critical minds here on Saabnet can take a look...I always find it amazing to see the details and little flaws others can find for me when I'm looking at cars.
