The strip is either folded in half, or split through the center. If it's folded, which is the most common replacement type, use your fingers, putty knife, or screwdriver & open it up & you see how it was installed. All that strip is for is to hide the staples that are needed to hold top. If it is split down the middle, then you need a narrow crown staple gun with a extended nose to fit in between the split, if that's the case it would be better to replace with the fold over type. It's a simple fix that anyone can do in about 30 minutes with proper equip. As far as the screws go, I'm assuming that their is chrome caps on the ends that the screws go thru. All they do is hold the caps on to finish out the strip. How much longer it will last on your situation is only a guess, just watch it, weather has alot to do with it. (removing the strip & staples would look worse than what you have now) I would try to restaple & like I said before, if the staples won't hold then replacement of the tack strip is the only fix. Hope this helps.
