I like the stagecoach comparison. I know exactly what you're talking about. About a year ago I put new boge turbo shocks on my 85t. The ride was still extremely rough. Last week I instaled Intrax springs and what an amazing difference in cornering, ride quality, and comfort. The potholes don't shake the whole car anymore!
The one problem I'm having now is that the boge turbos are too soft to effectively dampen the stiffer springs. This results in a slightly "bouncy" ride at times when the road gets bumpy.
As others are also suggesting, I would suggest you replace your springs and then make sure you also have a good strong shock like Koni or Bilstein.
