I've taken out a good windshield from a parts car and put it in my 900s a few years ago. You definately do not need to take out the headliner... But don't remember if the dash came out or not...since I was replacing that as well. But I did leave the gasket in the car and just removed the windshield.
The nerve racking part is you are dealing with a very expensive and fragile piece of glass. It is very necessary to have the right tools for the job. Recommend using plastic (nylon or Teflon) as a pry tool. Any type of metal against glass will cause a crack or chip, and will ruin your day. The edges are extremely delicate and vulnerable to chipping. Installation was very easy when you lube the gasket with WD-40 type and the glass sucks into place on the existing gasket.
THis is a run down of my experiences... I used complete instructions from this board a few years back.
I must warn you that I did crack the windshield... Halfway down getting it out and finished the crack when installing it.
Depending on your experience with this.... and the condition of you car and budget... I would leave it to the pro's
Goodluck.
