Free air units just don't sound all that great. I'm guessing that I properly driven "10 will give you all the thump you want. I used to run a punch HX2 with a punch 500 amp running it. Sounded great in my Jetta, should sound even better in a hatch. Also, take ChrisM's advice on the cap. They are getting more and more affordable. It will give you cleaner sound and the sub will respond much more quickly to big hits. Also, you won't be killing alternators. Next get some component sets and a nice amp to run those so you have some great mids and highs. I've been looking at cutting a hole in the armrest on the door panels where it turns up to the verticle. I would like to get some nice tweeters to put there. I've been a bit bummed by the poor soundstage in my convert. I don't know much about the hatch setup as far as speaker placement.
