With the spark plugs removed, turning the engine won't be difficult. If the clutch cover is removed, you can crank the engine easily with a breaker bar and socket placed on one of the pressure plate bolts and attempt to tighten it. Or with a large iron bar like a crow bar you can push against the teeth on the flywheel. You could probably even just grip the sides of the pressure plate and turn by hand. I prefer the breaker bar scenario. Also, you do know that it takes two complete revolutions of the flywheel to run through all cycles of all 4 cylinders, right? In other words, with the flywheel at TDC, that could either mean pistons 1 and 4 are at the top, or 2 and 3. Assuming your valve cover and distributor are still in place, best way is to remove the distributor cap and rotate the engine until the rotor pointer is postioned where contact would be made with spark plug wire #1 on the cap. Then you fine tune to TDC from there.
