I checked out my dashboard lights to see if the battery lamp lights up when I pause at “on” as Jim had suggested. The lamp did seem to light up okay. I’ll still bring it up to the mechanic as well as the other suggestions for checking the alternator ground strap and the battery ground (or positive) cable and performing an AVR. If the mechanic did check these at least I’ll have a better understanding of the diagnostics he has done.

I recently moved from Seattle to Iowa City and there are certainly a lot fewer Saabs running around out here! Iowa City Saab is the dealer that I had the original maintenance work done and my most recent alternator installed. The mechanic there seemed to be willing to help out and I’d hate to give up on them just yet (without my asking they did give me back my replaced alternator). Whitedog Garage is the independent shop that was recommended to me by a co-worker. They did the majority of the work and through the entire ordeal I found their service lacking. They actually asked that I never come back again because they were having "bad luck" with my car. These are the only two garages that I know of that work on Saabs around Iowa City. Unless someone knows of another???

And yes Keith, I have been considering selling my car. But with only about 118k miles on it, I feel I should be able to get a lot more life out of it.
