There's pros & cons, either way...
When you stay in gear & hold the clutch disengaged, you load the throw-out bearing for a longer time. You also have the clutch disk stopped while the flywheel & pressure plate spin alongside it. They're always gonna tough a little, the disengagement isn't perfect. But it's kinda like your brakes, the tiny bit that they drag isn't a big deal.
I've never worried about it too much. Usually I'll leave it in gear & hold the clutch disengaged. I have to agree, theoretically, but I've never had a problem.
Now if you put it in neutral & engage the clutch, you're spinning the primary drive chain (if it's a C900) & the input shaft of the tranny. So there's wear on those bearings & parts.
