BFG's new design is far superior to Pirelli's old one. That's part of the point of my post. Another part is that narrower & stiffer tires handle more crisply than wider & softer tires. So, if you're comparing dissimilar construction (as between the H-rated BFGs & the Yokohamas, or between the T-rated Pirellis & H-rated BFGs), then even more variables need to be considered. The small size differences Saab spec'd are there for a variety of reasons, including the most likely temperament of the person buyng each of the various car models.

I agree that wider tires of the same model will hold dry roads better. I also agree that shorter tires are usually more responsive than taller tires (which is contrary to how you say the taller 205/60s behave; the 185/65s are only 3mm taller than the 195/60s, while the 205/60s are 6mm taller). I don't run my car on a skidpad, so high g-force numbers don't have any relevance to me. But the corners I do see every day have become less of a problem with these narrower, stiffer, grippy-er tires

If you live in Northern Colorado (or upstate New York), there are other factors to consider. Narrower tires offer better traction & handling in rain, sleet, hail, slush & snow; all the conditions that are likely to wedge themselves between your tire & the road. My car is a year-round commuter, so safety is more important to me than speed. And narrower tires present less turning friction, so steering input is more effortless.

Also, not having a turbo on my 900 influenced my decision. When I bought the Pirellis, I learned that their 195/60s weighed roughly 2 lbs more per tire than their 185/65s. That's not very much when your engine produces nearly 200 hp, but I'm guessing my 15 yr old showroom hp number of 128 is probably well below 120 hp at this stage of the car's life. Maybe even below 110 hp. I don't generate enough power to use wider, heavier tires effectively, so I'll gladly trade pounds of rotating mass for quicker acceleration in traffic. (As I mentioned, it was unexpected that these narrower tires were actually heavier than the previous wider ones. Since their construction is different, it's not unreasonable; it was simply unexpected.) At this point, since I didn't get to compare them directly, I can only assume that the 185/65 BFGs weigh less than the 195/60 BFGs.
