Wow!
I've never seen this happen- I was over at a friend's house tonight while he was cleaning and regapping his plugs on his 89 Saab 900....he was on the last one and when he went to torque it to spec (21 ft-lbs) with the torque wrench, it broke right off with the base in the hole, and some debris down in the cylinder. I don't know whether he had the setting too high, or if the plug was already damaged or fatigued somehow...
Anyway....MAJOR PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!
You can actually see through the center of the threaded base into the cylinder which makes me believe it might be possible to back it out if you can get something down in the center to grip it...some sort of "back out" tool, possibly?
Any ideas on this? This guy really can't afford a major repair bill if he can avoid it...
Also, once the threaded base is out, what about getting the debris out of the cylinder? Vacuum cleaner? Ductape?
Thanks for any ideas...I'll pass them along to him.
I'm doing my compression test over the weekend, and I know what NOT to do after seeing this.
Thanks!
