I just did this job. As long as your having the top done and your contingency plan is to replace the spoiler trim you may want to do what I did. I removed the parts, used a house cleaning solution (Simple Green will work too) and a pressure washer on a low setting. Once they where thouroughly clean I let them completely dry out in the sun, then I sprayed them with Thompson's Water seal(Home Depot has spray cans0. Longer-lasting results than peanut oil and no streaking.
A couple things to consider. The spoiler is mounted to the car with adheesive tape and screws. You'll have to remove the rear seat and interior panels to access the screws on the rear quarter panel pieces. Be gentle taking the parts off. You'll need to get the old tape off the car or spoiler (this can be a bitch) and use new tape to remount it. Also, where the brake light wire goes through the rear trunk lid you'll need to redo the weather seal. I used black silicone adheesive. Lastly, while you have the rear spoiler off, you may want to hog out the underside of the weep holes. Once you pull the spoiler off you'll see what I'm talking about. The weep holes keep water from ponding on top of the spoiler, but they are always getting clogged. Hogging them out on the underside of the spoiler keeps the correct appearance but lets them function better.
You could definitely mask the car easier than you could remove and remount the parts. You may want to consider that option.
