John, What Type of AC guy did you ask? My information comes from my personal experience, as well as a guy who's run an AC shop for twenty years. I have also personally charged and monitered with temp and pressure guages charging both ways. When I was informed of the mistake I was making coming in on the low side with gas, I was of the same opinion as you are. I was having several AC issues at the time, including a leak, so I had plenty of cans with me (was just planning on having a vac pulled) . The leak was quickly found, and charging began. At this point, I shared and expressed your opinion to him... His responce was "you've got plenty of cans, If you don't mind wasting a couple...At this point He charged it and showed me with the guages exactly what was going on BOTH WAYS. A lesson well worth a couple of extra cans. I was completely shocked I was doing it wrong all those years. Did I make those systems work all those many times? Yes. Could they have been a lot cooler and less prone to breakdowns had I done it the right way? Definately yes. I've converted several 900 AC systems. Funny how the only ones that really worked right were done this way. I was simply passing along this information in an attempt to help out Wil W, not to argue an AC point with another Saaber. It would be impossible for me to convince the masses that every single can of AC refridgerent on the market is in fact labelled for professionals to come in on the high side with.
