No Start - Anders?

I mention Anders name in the header as he has given me lots of good advice from other posts.
Here's the story.... Had to replace head gasket. Did that, put everything back in, nice and clean too. Goto start,.... nothing.
All tests point to the hall sensor. BUT given that everything worked and that I always doubt what I did... here is the question. Even if all timing marks lined up ... is it possible to have completed this "180 degrees" the wrong way? I tried moving the distributor cap 180 to see if it would be any different - but to my dismay... no.
I am planning on replacing the hall sensor .... it aint like my 1987 that is for sure! BUT planning for the worst case scenario - replace hall sensor (and harmonic balancer) and still a no-start situation - the only thing I can think of is to take off the valve cover and check the timing again even though I triple checked it before sealing things up.
Thanks for a "lesson" in engines as this is more what it is all about - just trying to fill in a few gaps on my understanding on how things work.
Thanks in advance for any education/guidance or even prayers!
/Brian
