Here's what I found Posted by Inga [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: rear rust & whale tail, 88aero, Wed, 16 Jun 2004 07:31:25 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I'm in the middle of repaint my baby. (85 900 turbo) I am replacing the old normal spoiler with a fiberglass I got from Sas.com(I think) It was there gator'ed one. Anyway, when I pulled the old one off, I was surprised to find rust by one of the center screw down holes. The rust had almost eaten though the hatch. but was only 3" around. You'll need to remove as much of it as possible. (Wire brush worked well for me) granted I'm repainting and not worried about the finish of the paint. There is a product out there I got at O'railys. I'm at work at the moment and I can't think of the brand name. I found it very useful with that spot on my hatch.
To tell the truth, I thought I was getting a primer type spray so I cover any bare metal areas as I sanded the old paint. Didn't work very well for that. It's a rust eater not a rust preverter. If that makes since. You'll spray it on in very thin coats. Till the exposed area turns black. I think it worked very well for my hatch problem.
As far as the fiberglass tail, I'm not so sure at this point if I'm going to like it or not. I doesn't seem to fit perfectly. I have read on here that others have had the same issues. I guess we'll see, I'm set up to paint the first couple weeks in July. Of course I'll be putting the FG tail on after painting!
