ABS light always on -- but can't retieve codes

Hi,
I have a 1992 900S with ABS brakes. Non-abs braking works fine. The ABS light comes on with ignition switch and never goes off. I tried to retieve the codes but removing the jupper did not start the blink sequence. I believe I'm doing this correctly: key off, jumper in, key on, jumper out, watch for blinks.
Three fuses check okay. ABS relay gets power and seems to work okay. I unplugged everything and check the two diodes in the relay/fuse box. Both showed 0.54V drop in the correct direction and fully blocked in the other. Pretty sure I did this right.
I depressurized the system by pumping brake, turned on ignition and ABS pump turned on for 30 seconds or so then turned off as I believe it should. So I guess pressure switch and relay are okay. Valves ohm out okay. Wheel sensors ohm out okay but didn't check them rotating.
Any ideas on what else to check (and how) or do I assume a bad ABS module under the back seat? How much does one of these cost from a yard? Open to suggestions. Thanks.
Jim
