Hi,
I can't be much help on the fans, but I have noticed that my window switches get quite warm, too. I figure this is because I religiously run my headlights (1984 900S, which means the dash and instrument lights and window switch bulbs are lit constantly). Now, in your '90 model, such lights come on whenever the ignition key is in the "RUN" position; the headlights being on or off makes no difference.
That's most likely why the window switches are warm.
NOTE: If the whole console around the window switches and the ignition key is HOT to the touch, not just the switches themselves, then your catalytic convertor COULD be overheating. A too rich fuel mixture can cause that; an old, clogged cat will probably do that, too. If the cat gets VERY hot, it can wreak havoc on your ignition switch wiring. Not to be an alarmist here, just wanted you to know the possibilities...
