oil leak out dist. shaft/valve cover?

Just plain annoying.
Lost my check valve on the valve cover vent(2x). Started blowing oil out of the valve cover gasket, dist. shaft o-ring, and internal dist. shaft.
Bought a brass check valve from Group9. Excellent!
Cleaned up and reset the valve cover gasket. No leak.
Bought new dist. o-ring. Still leaks.
No internal leak, yet.
What 'product' can I use to get the o-ring to do its job? It is supposed to be new from eeuroparts.com. Once installed the dist. never moves, I'm very happy with the timing.
