Yes, generally.
The hp hoses go south more frequently than I'd like. I've replaced three sets on my 87 900T here in WashDC/MD since I bought the car w/133k on it in 92...it has 260 or so on it now. I would recommend replacing the receiver/dryer every five years and consider replacing the expansion valve at the same time. That being said, my 90 volvo has the original receiver/dryer at 140K but the car is going in for service Monday and one of the things I'm looking at is replacing the r/d and the expansion valve/filter.
OTOH, nobody ever does this until the system goes sour/low output or the system goes dry like from a leaking hose.
The other thing you MIGHT end up doing is replacing the condenser because the service guy ends up stripping the fittings to the condenser when replacing the hp hoses. I dunno about your 88, but on the 87 the hoses come as an assembly...you have to replace the hose from the compressor to the condensor and from the suction side to wherever it goes..comes as an assembly.
