I have a 1984 C900 base model 5-speed 4-door with 163,000 miles. We call him Sven. Have had the car since it was new.

The engine runs fine and is still quite strong (for a NA engine). The oil and filter have been changed every 5000 miles (Castrol 10-40). The transmission shifts smoothly and does not make any strange sounds. Last longish trip (NH to Trenton, NJ I got 30+ mpg running 75 to 80. Leaks oil (1 qt in about 4000 miles) but does not burn any. Has alloys (teardrops) with 3 Blizzaks (about 30K on them) and 1 new Nokian WR, all in 195/60 x 15.

Car has some rust around the lip of the right rear fender, some other spots here and there, including rear corner of the driver's door. Have a couple small dash cracks. Needs a headliner. Put a new starter and starter wiring in it last August. New radiator in winter 2003. New windshield last spring.

HOWEVER…it needs a new RF caliper (have the part), exhaust leaks between manifold to down pipe (bolt broken) and I think the slave cylinder may be going south. Not sure about clutch (100K on it). Can't get the RF wheel off--lugs are seized. (probably need a torch)

Sven has been a terrific car. I know it is all fixable, but I don't really have the time to do the work and I have a hard time justifying paying my indy to do the work. If it didn't need all this done I would turn him over to my daughter (new driver).

Still, he could be a great car for someone who can fix him up and who needs a winter rat, a daily beater or commute car.

Should I just do enough work so the car is drivable and sell it?
(Daughter doesn't really need a car, so her getting it is not critical. Plus it would cost more than the car to insure her on it.)
Get it hauled away?
Part it out?
Even running it's not worth a lot. Has a lot of good parts, though.
Donating is a possibility, but many places won't take a 20 year old car.

Have mixed feeling about this, having had Sven for so long.

All thoughts and suggestions are welcome.

Thanks!

Noel
