Probably a stupid question but.... Posted by Saabpilot [Email] (#134) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Saabpilot) on Mon, 19 Jul 2004 07:05:05 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
...the only stupid one is the one not asked, right?
I posted recently about replacing my valve cover with a shiny red one and I thought I had Permatex gasket material dripping onto my exhaust and turbo, creating smoke. It turns out that it is oil dripping, as I drove the car hard last week and popped the hood as soon as I got home and saw the oil drip while it was occuring. I've been away on a business trip but will now have time to work on the car this week.
Question is could there be something other than the valve cover gasket being installed wrong that could cause an oil leak? Someone asked me whether the PCV valve could be blocked causing a pressure buildup that would force the oil out of the lowest spot. The valve and the one-way check valve in the vacuum hose are new, but they were installed before the valve cover replacement was done into the old cover. The oil leak is at the bottom just behind (aft) of the bottom right bolt. I checked that bolt and all of the others and they were all tight, although it did move just a wee bit more toward being more tight when I put a socket on it. I have not driven the car since due to being out of town.
I'm guessing that the gasket just got pinched in that area when I installed it but I'm open to opinions & suggestions. Thanks.
