Did you use a gasket sealer along with the gasket? The Bentley calls for goop on the lower edge, espeically around the distributor. Although some folks have claimed to have a good seal with just the gasket alone, I have found that the gasket and a good flange sealer (I use Loctite 518) is the only way for me to get a good seal.
Proper torquing is critical, of course. I have actually had good luck in pulling the cover, re-gooping with some 518, and re-torquing.
