Some explanation of fuel pump. Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Fuel Pump Fuse is Blowing, PhillySaaber, Tue, 20 Jul 2004 06:39:10 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Fuel pumps are notorious on the early 900 to draw more amp when coming to the end of lifespan.
The fuel pump fuse slowly gets cooked trying to deliver power.
Since I have access to a labscope with a milli amp clamp I can check the status of fuel pump in a couple of minutes just by hooking the amp clamp around power feed to pump and study the amperage curve. This can also show if one or more of the commutator plates are burned.
Left picture is of a bad fuel pump with a couple of burned plates, each dip represent one full turn of fuel pump. Right picture is of a new pump.
You can see that I used two different time base between left and right picture, 20ms versus 2ms. That means that the left pic show 6 complete revelutions of the pump but the right picture only show barely one revelution.
