When I start the car cold it the idle hunts for a little bit at around 800 rpms but after a few minutes of driving or idling the idle evens out and then slowly begins to climb as engine temp increases. By the time it's completely settled out it's idling evenly anywhere between 1100 and 1300 rpms. On a hot start, it fires up, the rpms dive, it almost stalls out, recovers and idles smoothly high. I tested the cold start injector, warm up regulator and aux air valve as per the bentley. The cold start injector fires in bursts. I was a little surprised about that since the regular injectors are cis and never close but I figured this one must be different since it only operates for the first few minutes of driving. The warm up regulator checked out okay (I skipped the line pressure test though as I don't have access to the equipment to do that - I know that the check valve at the fuel pump is bad but as long as I turn the ignition to run for about 10 seconds before starting it charges the system and It fires up on the 2nd or 3rd crank). The aux air valve is what I'm a little confused about. Ambient air temp today was about 70-75 and the valve was closed. Bently says it should be open when car is cold (engine temp below 65). I took it off and cleaned it and it stopped sticking closed but the default spring setting inside seems to want it closed anyway. Is my aux air valve bad? Thanks, I'm having a heck of a time figuring this out.
