About a year ago I traded my '96 900SE. I decided to replace the car because the only place I get get it repaired was the dealer or an independent about 85 miles from my home. Like Keith, the complexity of the car was starting to freak me out, and it was starting to develop all sorts of gremlins, not to mention a constant cluth problem. The cost factor and the stress of feeling like I was getting raped by the dealer or trying to take the car 85 miles away for repairs proved too much, so I sold the car. It was a really bad day, as I really liked the '96 900SE. Awesome power, smooth as butter . . .

A year later, I decided to return to school full-time. In preparation, I needed to increase my monthly cash flow, so I sold the new car I bought when I said good-bye to the SAAB. I really missed the versatility of the hatch, so I decided I would look for a CG900 in hopes that it would be more manageable for me to maintain, and there is a local independent where I live for the CG900. I bought a 1990 900.

After about a month with CG900 car, I still miss my '96 900SE. To me, other than a hatch, there isn't much the two cars have in common. I like the CG900 a lot -- but for totally different reasons. The CG900 isn't nearly as refined or as quick, but it does have it's own distinct charm, and the simplicity of the car makes me a much more confient DIYer. I am expecting the CG900 to cost less to maintain the NG900 as it has less to go wrong and I think I can do more of the work. Time will tell.

I don't think it would be a bad move as I did it, but remember the CG900 will be a totally different animal than the NG900, at least in my opinion.
