If it stalls when you engage the clutch, then I would suspect the Automatic Idle Control. This is very simple to clean - you can do a search of this board to find out how to do it. I would NOT think the fuel pump or the auxiliary pump are the problem - your symptoms do not match up with that. When a fuel pump is not working properly you see fuel delivery problems on hard acceleration (main pump) or hard cornering (auxiliary pump). You should seek out a better mechanic.
