I would appreciate some advice please. Following some pretty heavy rain here in Australia, I have a good sized leak into the trunk! I have found the basic cause. Details:
1993 900i convertible. I bought the car a few months ago and the top was replaced about a year ago by the previous owner. I found that water was pooling on the forward moulded inside trim off the trunk (the bit that incorporates the trunk light and is held at the top by three fasteners) and underneath the material/bag into which the folded down top stows. There are no leaks into the car. At first I thought it was the lower glue line on the glass rear screen which had failed. I resecured this with urethane glue and then waterproofed the surrounding fabric. However, using a hose I gently trickled onto the rear screen panel below the glass and I can confirm the water 'disappears' where the rear screen fabric panel goes under the rear aluminium trim strip (just forward of the spoiler) which covers the lower edge of the top. Water then drips through onto that trunk inside forward trim near the trunk light.
What's the best way forward now? I'm hesitant to take things further apart without advice. I would really like to get that inside trim off to have a better look but cannot see how those three upper fasteners are removed - they certainly don't want to unscrew! Is the rear aluminium strip meant to seal against the fabric because I can see slight damage on the strip in the middle (unless theres meant to be a small drainage slot?!). Would a thin strip of silocone along the reat strip/rear screen panel be appropriate. Open to ideas please!
regards
Tim
